Arctic Rigs
68
National Oilwell has successfully met the challenges of the Arctic,
both offshore and onshore. With over 25 years in playing a leader-
ship role in cold weather rig design, and with a wealth of experience
and knowledge ranging from the development of year-round
offshore cold weather drilling, to the creation of completely self-
contained, highly mobile onshore drilling systems. Any challange
can be met.
Some major concerns when developing an arctic drilling or
production rig are: the environment; limited space availability;
storage of consumable supplies; mobility; operational safety;
automation and the high costs of fuel.
The rig design permits pad to pad moves with a minimum of outside
work in severe arctic conditions.
To date, National Oilwell has developed and provided the most
efficient rigs on the north slope of Alaska.
