NOV Downhole’s sophisticated TerraSCOPE® model calculates confined rock strength and predicts drillability and vibration tendencies. The formation evaluation software helps develop the most efficient drilling strategy based on the mechanical properties of the formation.
The software incorporates formation evaluation with a variety of performance measurements to help define the most advantageous bit selection, operating parameters and drilling practices for specific situations.
Using the latest rock mechanics algorithms, the TerraSCOPE software combines the directional profile, lithological descriptions and electronic log data from an offset well to calculate:
- Compressive Strength (Confined & Unconfined)
- Abrasivity & Vibration Potential
The software also features additional calculations for drilling performance evaluation including:
- Drilling Economics
- Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE)
- Specific Energy ROP (SE ROP)
- Drilling Efficiency
Once the offset well has been analyzed and evaluated, the software allows the user to extrapolate all the calculations to a subject well that is yet to be drilled, resulting in an optimized drill bit plan and lower bit-related risks such as:
