DrillLink

Save time and lower your overall operating cost through automating routine down-linking functions

The NOV M/D Totco DrillLink provides an easy-to-use interface for generating command sequences for downlinking to rotary steerable and other downhole tools. Automation of the downlinking eliminates the need for the directional driller to constantly monitor a stopwatch while giving verbal instructions to the driller. Pull-down software menus means that the right instruction for each tool is always loaded, further reducing human error. Since the commands are now precise and repeatable, the tool manufactures can modify their communication systems to allow faster, more efficient downlinking operations. DrillLink provides an intelligent interface between service companies and existing rig control systems in an efficient, reliable and non-intrusive communication format.

Simply put: DrillLink digitizes and modifies the driller's throttle signals to send precise downlinking commands by using the rig's own control system to regulate the speed of the mud pumps.

Let the Driller focus on his business
The process of drilling wells is growing more complex all the time. Many down-hole tool operations report human error as the number one source for time delays and drilling inaccuracies. A simple phone call to the drillfloor can lead to a misrun. With DrillLink, once the command is sent, there is nothing left to do but monitor the status.

The driller selects ON or OFF and monitors downlinking progress via the indicator lights.

Efficiency is key to your success
Faster downlinking allows the directional driller to make more course corrections, if necessary, without regard to rig time. This can improve wellbore quality with reduced dog-leg severity, resulting in less drilling torque, less drag while tripping and reduced drillstring wear.

FeaturesBenefits
Fast downlinkingSave time. With DrillLink automation, the code in the down-hole tool can now be modified to recognize shorter duration pulses, resulting in time savings of 50 to 85 percent.
Less disruptive to drill crewsRemain focused. No need to make repeated throttle changes. The driller can focus on safe rig operation while DrillLink communicates to his downhole tool.
Automatic downlinkingReduced oppurtunity for error. No more stop watches. No more manual throttling. Easy to use software allows you to create or select a command then send with the push of a button.
Customizable downlinking:Ensure efficient execution. Select the type of down-hole tool from pull-down menus to see which commands are pre-programmed into the tool. Pick an instruction and one click later, it is loaded into DrillLink.
Repeatable downlinkingGain down linking accuracy. Once loaded into DrillLink, the right code is sent every time using PLC precision to the nearest millisecond.
No calibration requiredCalibration free. Since DrillLink uses a percentage of the current driller's throttle setting, no calibration is necessary.
User friendly designEasy to use. If the driller needs to adjust throttles quickly, he uses his existing controls by simply reducing his throttle. No need for emergency shut down devices.
Built to minimize downtimeMinimize downtime. When the system is off, relays route throttle signals reliably, with minimal effect on the overall system MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures). Provided bypass connecter allows complete control to be instantly returned to the rig crew in case of problems.
Easy to installFast rig up. Can be installed quickly with only a few hours needed within the critical path of rig activity. After initial installation the system can be rigged up in a matter of minutes.
