Constructed from the highest-grade materials, National Oilwell Varco's generators feature low loss stator materials and slot construction designed to reduce harmonics that perform exceptionally well with SCRs, VFDs, and high demand motor starting.
The stator frame is a heavy-duty fabrication designed to withstand the shock and vibration associated with the frequent relocation of drill rigs. They are engineered to provide years of service in the most severe drilling applications. NOV generators feature two bearing construction with robust spherical roller bearings designed for a 40,000 hour minimum life.
Stator assemblies consist of heavy form wound coils with fully taped and insulated magnet wire, and are completely treated with a special Vacuum Pressure Impregnation process, assuring maximum dielectric and environmental protection. Both ends of the three phase stator windings are connected to bus bars in an external junction box. The neutral connection is completed in the junction box and provisions are made for differential protection upon request.
The rotor construction is compact and rugged with brushless exciter components located outboard of the rear bearing, providing convenient access for maintenance. All rotors are dynamically balanced and engineered to withstand 125% over nominal speed. Enclosures are drip proof guarded (IP23) with air to water cooling, inlet air filters and other extreme-environment option packages.
The rotor assemblies are made from a laminated rotor spider with individual field poles attached to the spider. Robust dovetails are inserted into slots located in the spider. All field poles are wound with insulated copper wire and layers of epoxy to provide maximum bond strength. The rotor and excitation components are fully class "H" insulated. A full copper damper circuit is interconnected from pole to pole to improve parallel operation and stabilize transient load performance.
The cooling air intake is located at the rear of the generator and the exhaust air is radially discharged at the front. NOV Baylor generators are designed for ambient temperatures of -40C to +55C without suffering damage or degradation to the insulation systems.
National Oilwell's Baylor brushless synchronous generators are manufactured to exacting internal standards and meet or exceed NEMA, IEEE, ANSI and IEC requirements. In addition, third party certifications from ABS, DNV, LLOYDS, Bureau Veritas, etc. are also available.
