National Oilwell Varco engineers and custom manufactures
quality brake, clutch and winch cooling systems. These systems
can be equipped with horizontal or vertical pumping units and
various tank designs to meet virtually any footprint
requirement. National Oilwell Varco cooling systems are
engineered to fully dissipate heat generated at 100% loads and
offer redundant pumping units to ensure system
availability.
A multi-plate heat exchanger equipped with titanium plate
sets provides the ability to precisely match the cooling
capacity to the maximum heat load. The heat exchanger can be
opened and each plate cleaned individually to prevent scaling
and remove any foreign contaminants. If a plate is damaged, the
damaged plate and its mate can be removed and the heat
exchanger reassembled with minimum cooling capacity loss. If
the environment changes, the cooling rate of the exchanger can
be increased by adding additional plate sets. Included are
2½" pressure gauges on the inlet and the outlet of the
heat exchanger to monitor pressure through the exchanger.
National Oilwell Varco systems are available with single or
redundant heat exchangers.
These units are equipped with 2500 Supremeâ„¢ or Magnumâ„¢
centrifugal pumps with tungsten carbide mechanical seals. Pumps
and motors are mounted on a common base and coupled with a
flexible coupling that is protected by an OSHA style guard. The
units are primed prior to assembly and then coated with an
enamel top coat. The bases and guards are available as
hot-dipped galvanized for applications in harsh environments.
Check valves in each pump-discharge line allow all butterfly
valves to remain open and either pump to be activated without
water pumping back through the second pump. The two pumps are
piped to allow 100% pump standby. Bypass piping is incorporated
into the system to allow bypass of the heat exchanger during
cleaning and maintenance operations.
These systems feature a closed steel tank with water level
indicator, drain and removable top. The tank features a 2-inch
fill connection, 8-inch atmospheric vent and a 6-inch,
150-pound ANSI flange return connection. The tank interior is
coated with epoxy-based paint to prevent corrosion. A
3" temperature gauge is mounted on the tank exterior
to allow local monitoring.
All equipment is mounted on a common heavy I beam oilfield
type skid with four lifting eyes. The skid is deck-plated and
seal-welded prior to coating.
Optional Monitoring and Alarm System
National Oilwell Varco offers optional monitoring
instrumentation. This safety equipment can be fully integrated
into the package, including wiring. The safety protection
package is available with the following equipment:
Explosion Proof Indicator Control Panel
This panel has three green lights, three red lights, and
an on/off switch. The green or red lights indicate
temperature, water level, and flow. Panel is wired to
instrumentation and mounted on the system skid.
Explosion Proof Temperature Gauge
This gauge reads temperature on the face and can be set
in the field to send a signal to the control panel when the
fluid reaches the specified temperature.
Explosion Proof Low-Level Alarm
The low-level alarm sends a signal to the control panel
when the water level drops to level setting.
Explosion Proof Flow Indicator
The indicator is mounted in the discharge piping with a
paddle in the flow stream. When the pump is activated the
flowing liquid activates the paddle switch and transmits a
signal indicating fluid flow. No flow will trigger the alarm
at the control panel.
Explosion Proof Horn
This horn provides a sonic warning when any of the three
alarms are triggered. Horn can be silenced at the control
panel.
Explosion Proof Strobe Light
The strobe light provides a visual warning when any of
the three alarms are triggered. This single-flash,
explosion-proof, UL listed strobe light is designed for
operation in hazardous areas rated Class I Groups C &
D, Class II Groups E, F & G. Design features include:
a housing made of die-cast, high-strength, copper-free
aluminum alloy coated with a baked-powder epoxy finish,
stainless steel hardware and an o-ring-sealed, pre-stressed,
glass globe with glass and guard, and double-pitched ACME
threads that provide smooth assembly.
