The Maximum Performance Cage Choke (MPC) is designed to provide extended service life, superior performance, safety and cost effective operation. MPC chokes are available in Angle and In-Line types.
Extended service life and superior performance are derived from NOV’s Best cage trim design which utilizes the principle of flow impingement to dissipate the energy in the flow stream resulting in a reduction in cavitational and erosional wear.
Increased safety and efficiency of operations are obtainable through the use of NOV’s Best Wear Monitor, which reduces the chance of a choke washout and eliminates unnecessary well shut-ins simply to inspect the condition of the trim. The majority of wear in chokes occurs in the vena contracta and in the adjacent downstream area as a result of high velocity, cavitation, or flashing created by the pressure drop.
The seat body of the cage design is extended into the outlet bore of the choke. This extended section contains an annular cavity that is sealed from the flow line pressure. By monitoring this cavity for any significant pressure increase, the operator can detect a failure of the seals or washout of the seat liner. Both conditions can be detected before damage occurs to the choke body.
