    Tektonic drill bit with FuseTek™ technology sets new benchmark in Romania

    Our 6-in. FTK73 Tektonic bit drills 532 m with an average ROP of 4.7 m/h set a new field record in terms of both interval drilled and rate of penetration. This bit combines the new design philosophy of Tektonic, the advanced thermostable cutter technology and the newly developed high-density impreg elements. The bit drilled a Triassic formation composed of hard and abrasive sandstones, limestones, dolomites, anhydrites, and dolomitic limestones. Increasing the rate of penetration in 28% compared to the best offset, the bit performed with very good directional control: build from 10º inclination to 81º ; max DLS 6.34º/30m/.


    Tektonic drill bit with Chainsaw cutter configuration has achieved a new field record in Oman

    The 12¼-in. TK66 bit, which featured our new ION™ cutters, outperformed the previous ROP field record by 42%. The operator drilled the entire 12¼-in. section in one run, from casing shoe until TD, setting the new record at 23.1 m/hr. The Tektonic drill bit provided efficiency and durability in this challenging vertical application, which primarily consisted of hard carbonates, siltstone, shale, and abrasive sandstones.

    Initiate rock failure

    Extensive research of efficient rock failure is incorporated into the design of each Tektonic drill bit. We integrate the latest generation technology to achieve maximum ROP for each fraction of energy expended in drilling by initiating rock failure as efficiently as possible.  

    Minimize frictional losses

    Building on high-performance Helios™ Inferno™ cutters, our latest technology increases ROP, improves drilling efficiency in all rock types, and reduces bit balling by using a low-friction cutting surface that enables the cuttings to move up the front face of the cutter and along the blade front more efficiently.

    Distribute cutter load

    Using new and innovative blade geometry, Tektonic bits are optimized for the loading seen downhole. Blade height, forward lean, and root geometry are tailored specifically for the best performance and improved cuttings evacuation.

    Maximize cuttings evacuation

    To evacuate cuttings more efficiently and minimize the potential for bit balling in sticky formations, each cutter is incrementally offset from adjacent cutters at an optimized interval. The incremented cut profile also reduces the amount of energy required to fail the rock.
