QT-16Cr is a cost effective corrosion resistant alloy (CRA) coiled tubing product. The material is designed for long term direct exposure to wet CO 2 environments. Potential applications include permanent installation in gas wells producing liquid water and CO 2 , as well as water injection wells and other well environments where corrosion of standard coiled tubing grades is a problem. QT-16Cr coiled tubing is also a potential candidate for velocity strings and other permanent installation applications where jointed 13% Chromium jointed tubulars are considered essential.
QT-16Cr is currently being employed for permanent installations as velocity strings in environments containing wet CO 2 and saline conditions. Strings have been installed to well depths in excess of 18,000 feet. Service providers and operating companies have reported that their operations have been routine in comparison to similar operations with standard coiled tubing grades. Wellhead hangers, strippers, blow out preventers and injector heads have been extensively tested for compatibility with QT-16Cr and found to be satisfactory.
Additional environmental testing is being conducted by service providers and operating companies. Quality Tubing NOV is continuing various testing programs that are specific to customer requests. Additional field-testing is underway in determining the product "fit for purpose" for specific work string environments, including acidizing with specific inhibition treatments. It is believed that QT-16Cr may offer technical benefits and improved system economics for many coiled tubing operations.
