Tool Joint Rebuilding

Tool Joint Rebuild mediumNOV® Tuboscope® restores worn tool joints on drill pipe, drill collars and Hevi-Wate® drill pipe to their original specifications. Rebuilding costs are typically 40-60 percent lower than the cost of new pipe.

The rebuild process includes:

  • Hardband removal
  • Preheating to a minimum of 350ºF
  • Rebuilding tool joint 1/8-inch larger than finished specification
  • Stress relief – 1,100ºF for 65-85 minutes, depending on product
  • Turning the OD of tool joint to final specification
  • Inspecting rebuilt joint, including hardness, dimensions, and under black light
  • Threading box and pin connections
  • Thread inspections

Over more than 50 years, we’ve rebuilt hundreds of thousands of tool joints.
