NOV® Tuboscope® prefers inspecting the tube body section of used pipe with NDT methods of electromagnetic (Sonoscope®) and gamma ray (Isolog®) in a covered facility, where variables such as weather, inspection speed and pipe alignment are controllable.
Inspections of pipe end areas include connection visual testing and mechanical gauging of the threads, with magnetic particle testing for surface flaws and ultrasonic wall thickness gauging.
These techniques detect:
- Cracks, pits and other surface imperfections such as outside and inside corrosion damage
- Inside surface sucker rod wear
- Outside transverse and longitudinal slip and tong cuts
- Inside surface drill pipe wear
- Transverse cracking
- Severe wireline damage
Well-site inspections, which assess the condition of pipe sequentially as it is pulled from the well, provide a visual image of footage depths to locate possible tubing failures. This service was created by Tuboscope and perfected with the WellChek® inspection system using NDT flux leakage EMI (Sonoscope) and gamma-ray for wall measuring (Isolog) with an eddy current “Split Detector.”
