    Description

    The DuraClose™ system allows the capture and recovery of problematic formations that cannot be effectively cored using conventional equipment. The dual-core catcher design of the DuraClose system addresses the challenges of coring unconsolidated, friable, or fractured formations by incorporating a patented full-closure clamshell with a slick, unrestricted core entry.

    During coring, the DuraClose system is operated in a similar manner to a conventional core barrel. A secondary drop ball activates the system, exposing the concealed catcher mechanisms and stroking the inner barrel upwards. The clamshells are then activated, shearing the core and closing off the base of the inner barrel, and a secondary spring catcher is deployed to ensure that there is no loss of core, even in weakly cemented, well consolidated, or fractured formations.

    The DuraClose system is recommended for applications where poor core recovery is anticipated due to low rock strengths or where uncemented fractures may become jammed when using a conventional catcher system. This is the system of choice when seeking to avoid short core runs, unscheduled trips, and loss of critical core data.
