SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY PAYING DIVIDENDS

XTO has contracted Cactus Drilling Rig 159 for work in the Midcontinent Region.

Rig 159 incorporates our Stand Transfer Vehicle, or STV, which transfers pipe between the fingerboard and the hydraulic elevator. The STV improves safety by removing the derrickman from the mast, one of the most dangerous locations on a drilling rig. Cactus operators said that on its first well, the rig surpassed the drilling curve for Carter County by 13.5 days, which saved approximately $950,000.

Rig 159 also utilizes our Amphion Drilling Controls to combine individual equipment components and drilling functions into a fully integrated, intuitive operation. The rig incorporates a suite of our equipment to protect equipment operators, make drilling processes repeatable, consistent and protect well integrity. These components include the DSGD-375 Drawworks, TDS-11SA Top Drive, ST-80C Iron Roughneck, PSF-01 Power Slip Frame, PipeCat™ Laydown System, Drill Force™ VFD system and three Brandt™ King Cobra Shale Shakers.

LICENSE TO DRILL

NABORS WILL UTILIZE INNOVATIVE DRILLING PRESSURE CONTROL SOLUTION IN ALASKA

To help manage high-pressure reservoirs, ExxonMobil selected the Shaffer LXT™ RAM BOP from NOV to provide enhanced shearing capability via low force shear technology. This reduces required shear force by at least 50 percent, enabling multiple shear and seal sequences while in hang-off position. The remaining stack configuration utilizes the Ram and Annular models to minimize the height and weight of the stack for easier handling. The enhanced shearing capability of the LXT RAM BOP, combined with the compact, reliable Annular BOP and 6012 RAM BOP that resulted in the ideal solution for ExxonMobil's high-pressure work.

PUSHING THE ENVELOPE

PARKER RIG 262 CONDUCTS EXTENDED-REACH DRILLING FOR EXXONMOBIL IN SAKHALIN ISLANDS

A major NOV component of the Parker Rig 262 (Yastreb) drilling operation is our powerful top drive, the TDX-1250. This drive has a 1,250-ton hoisting capacity and 150,000 ft-lbs of torque. The TDX-1250 incorporates SoftSpeed™, a software enhancement to help prevent torsional stick-slip oscillations of the drill string and mitigate stick-slip in extremely long wells. The TDX-1250 and SoftSpeed technology helped Rig 262 drill a world record depth of more than 42,000 feet in the Sakhalin project. The extended-reach drilling was enhanced with our 12-P-160 mud pump, featuring 7,500 psi fluid-end modules for high-pressure work.

NOV and ExxonMobil regularly collaborate on extended-reach drilling projects throughout the world. These projects use our high-torque iron roughneck models, including the ST-100, ST-120 and ST-160, ranging from 100,000 ft-lbs of make-up torque to 160,000 ft-lbs of breakout torque. These torque ranges are ideal for handling long stands of pipe with double shoulder connections, a necessity when pushing the envelope of drilling depths.
