Built upon our dominant ION+™ cutter technology, our ION+ 5DX™ Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) cutter incorporates an optimized multi-faceted geometry that improves mechanical toughness by 60% over conventional cutters, resulting in remarkably effective performance when drilling challenging interbedded lithologies. The working ridge is optimized to withstand sudden impacts while imparting higher compressive loads into the formation for more efficient and effective rock failure.

The ION+ 5DX cutter provides greater durability, which increases interval lengths and eliminates unnecessary and costly bit trips. Our drill bit design engineers strategically position 5DX cutters in a patent pending cutter layout that delivers faster, instantaneous ROP while resisting impact damage in tougher applications with chert nodules or conglomerates.  The layout has been proven in the lab to reduce torque without sacrificing ROP and has translated to record-setting performances.
